Job Title: Assistant Design Manager

Department: Retail Store Development

JOB PURPOSE

This Job contributes to Al Futtaim Retail Success by creating store designs for regional retail market that holds the Al Futtaim Retail Customer experience, meeting Brand Principle Design expectations, cost, schedule and operational requirements, while working with a cross functional team. Models and acts in accordance with Al Futtaim Retail and Franchise guiding principles.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES: Assist Design Manager in Retail Store Design through coordination, support and ensure the completion of Project Design in accordance with agreed parameters of quality standards, cost and time lines

Concept Design
Coordinate site surveys on new projects in coordination with external design consultants and the Al Futtaim Retail Leasing Department
Oversee Legal Documents on Design Consultant appointments i.e. Design Contract / MEP Design Contract
Initiate design briefing with relevant stakeholders
such as Brand representatives and Design Consultants
Deliver Store Concept Design in accordance with Brand Design Directives
Prepare and present New Concept Designs to Brand specific Management Team and relevant stakeholders
Manage Design Cost in Line with Budgeted cost allocations for individual projects
Submit and Present Concept Design to respective Landlords and Franchise Principals

Detail Design
Further Concept Design through Architectural Detail Design, MEP Detail Design including but not limited to Signage Design, Lighting Design and Joinery/ Furniture Design
Coordinate General Store Layouts in accordance with Operational Functionalities i.e. Sales Floor Trading Requirements / Back of House Operational Requirements
Present and Submit Detail Design Packs to Landlord, Brand Principles and Al Futtaim Retail Division
Attend design queries and comments as per the Landlord requirements in coordination with relevant stakeholders

Tender Process and Procurement
Coordinate the Scope of Works & Bill of Quantities for individual Projects based on Detail Design Packs on Architectural and MEP Designs
Initiate Procurement Process on long lead items with Procurement Managers and Project Managers
Drafting / CAD
Design Small scale projects such as Office Move and other office modifications, Preliminary Unit proposal to the Landlord and other Stakeholders, Modifications on Store Layout
General
Conduct Hand over of Design Documents to Project Implementation Managers for Execution
Review drawings from Design Consultants to ensure that the design brief is properly executed, as per the Brands’ Guidelines and following the Landlord Design Criteria
Conduct limited site visits to ensure Design Specific Criteria is implemented according to Design Directives
Coordinate any design matters with Architectural and MEP Consultant, AF Brand and relevant Brands Principals.
Assist and Answer Site Design Queries during the Site Implementation Phase
Conduct Post Mortem Review on design and merchandising equipment including joineries/ furniture
Coordinate Electronic Archiving of relevant Design Documentation i.e. Drawings / Contracts / Specifications / Material Sample Boards.

QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE, & SKILLS

Minimum Qualifications and Knowledge: Knowledge of Architectural and Interior Design principles, Ability to read blueprints and technical drawings, understanding of engineering terminology, Drafting skills and Rendering skill, Retail Project Management Coordination Skill

Minimum Experience: Minimum three years experience working in a Retail Design Office in the GCC in the capacity of a Retail / Interior Designer

Job-Specific Skills: Constant communication with various stakeholders as well as 3 rd parties, a strong level of negotiation and command is required. Your planning and organising skills will be second to none as well as your ability to use your creative eye when it comes to planning and design process in relation to Retail Design

Behavioural Competencies : Creative Design Awareness , Design Trend Awareness, Assertiveness, Negotiation skills, Planning and Organizing skills, Time management skills, Communication skills and Decision Making Skill.
