Job description: Product Development & Range Building

  • Build and communicate product (department(s)) strategy per season
  • Have good understanding of trend and customer and convert the same into commercial product
  • Ownership of the process of creating the range direction, selection and final sign off.
  • Responsible for negotiating the price and ensuring delivery arrangements with Suppliers/Vendors within a set budget.
  • Maintain an extensive level of communication with design, planning, retail, sourcing, Quality and E-comm teams for the process of range direction and selection
  • Maintain a good retail interface with territories on stock management and solicit regular product feedback
  • Liaise with marketing team for effective product & social media campaigns
  • Liaising with Apparel/non-apparel teams to ensure a wholistic and coherent product proposition for customers

Buying Budget and Planning

  • Deliver the sales and profit targets for the department
  • Determine the buying requirements and formulates the buying plan along with planning as per budget for the assigned category, based on the analysis of the historical trends and future forecasts.
  • Actively participate in implementing the buying strategy along with business manager
  • Improve department efficiency on turnaround time and cost.

Order & Vendor Management

  • Identify and shortlist potential vendors as partners and negotiating the cost in line with desired level of margins
  • Assure pre-production quality check is executed in a timely manner with quality control manager collaboration.
  • Critical path management from merch direction to final stock received
  • Provide inputs to sourcing department for sourcing strategy for the department
  • Ensure constant cost reduction measures through centralized bulk buying and/ or selecting appropriate vendor mix
  • Review of shipment tracking, PLM and product approvals.

Market Research & Competitor Benchmarking

  • Conduct periodic store visits along with business manager to collect feedback from the stores and about competition to benchmark product range, quality and pricing
  • Gather information on fashion trends through trade shows/inspirational trips and utilise the same in building competetive product proposition.

People Management

  • Develop successors for subsequent roles through effective implementation of individual development plans
  • Motivating and retaining the team through effective performance management, recognition and development to ensure a performance based winning culture
  • Guiding team and ensuring that PLM and other business process are adhered to
